Tuck Profiles and Triggers: Setup and Limits
Profiles save a configuration. Triggers respond to a condition. Both are planned for Tuck Pro, which is coming soon and is not on sale.
Steps
- Record a starting layout. Take a screenshot of the visible and hidden icons you want. This works today without a profile feature.
- Choose one context. Write down one reason to change the layout, such as switching from the built-in screen to an external display. Avoid changing several conditions at once.
- Define a rule and its reverse. For example, plan to reveal a battery item below a chosen threshold and hide it again when the condition ends. Decide where the item should return.
- Wait for a compatible Pro release. Check the Pro page and changelog before applying this plan. When the feature ships, test one rule, disable it, and confirm your starting layout can be restored.
A profile stores more than icon order
A profile is a saved configuration. Import and export are documented for backup or sharing. Before importing someone else’s configuration, review what it changes, particularly any script hooks. A screenshot remains a useful reference even when an export exists.
A trigger needs a condition and an outcome
The source documents conditions such as battery level, power, Focus and Wi-Fi. Battery and power conditions are available in the source; other conditions must be enabled individually in Developer settings and some are marked Experimental. This is a description of source behavior, not a promise that these conditions are included in a released Pro build.
Start with one display
Plan the layout on one screen before binding it to a display, Space or Focus. Once Pro is available, test docking, undocking and waking the Mac separately. A saved profile is not a guarantee that every system item will move on every setup.
Restore the starting state
Disable the rule you just added before changing another one. Compare the menu bar with your original screenshot. If a future profile or trigger behaves unexpectedly, report the exact rule, versions and display arrangement. The free core continues to focus on hiding, showing and arranging icons.
