Organize your menu bar around the way you work

Start with hide and reveal. Add search, the Tuck Bar and more when you want them. Here is each feature, which permission it uses, and what belongs to Pro.

Updated

A free core

  • Hidden sections Free

Visible, Hidden and an optional Always-Hidden section. Drag icons between them in Layout, or Command-drag in the menu bar. Spacer items have adjustable width and colour. Groups and folders are planned for Pro.

  • Reveal on your terms Free

Click an empty area of the menu bar, hover, scroll, swipe or use a hotkey. Items can rehide on their own.

  • Keyboard search Free

Open the search panel with a hotkey, type part of a name and jump to the item.

  • The Tuck Bar Free

A separate bar that shows your hidden items. It is meant for MacBooks with a notch, where icons can end up out of reach. It has its own shape, tint and border.

  • Simple Mode Free

Replaces the sidebar with one curated page. Every other pane keeps its configuration, so you can switch back to the full settings at any time.

  • Appearance Free

Solid or gradient tint, a tint sampled from your wallpaper, shadow, border and custom shapes (rounded, split and notch-aware). Settings differ for light and dark mode, and can be overridden per Space.

  • Hotkeys Free

Toggle individual sections, show search, turn the Tuck Bar on or off, toggle application menus, toggle automatic rehiding, toggle Zen mode or open a specific item’s menu.

  • Zen mode Free

One action conceals every section and locks the reveal gestures, then puts it all back. Automatic activation is planned for Pro.

  • Languages Free

Available in 20 languages, with a per-app language override in the Tools pane.

Power features Pro coming soon

Tuck Pro is a planned one-time unlock and is not on sale yet. Profiles, triggers, automation, folders and per-display layouts are planned Pro features. Read the Pro page.

  • Profiles Pro coming soon

Save the whole configuration as a profile and switch between profiles. Import and export profiles for backup or sharing. Run pre and post apply script hooks, globally or per profile.

  • Triggers Pro coming soon

Reveal an item when a condition is met, or hide it instead. Battery and power conditions are always available. Every other condition ships switched off and is enabled one at a time in Developer settings. Some are still marked Experimental. Conditions combine with AND and OR.

  • Per-display layouts Pro coming soon

Bind a profile to a display, a Space or a Focus filter, so a notched MacBook screen and an external monitor can look different.

  • Folders Pro coming soon

Group related items so they move and hide as one unit, even across sections.

  • Automation Pro coming soon

Script hooks and settings changes over tuck:// links, with approval for each requesting app. Basic actions such as toggle-hidden and search are plain links.

Triggers · Pro coming soon

Show an item only while it matters

In this example, Battery Monitor is revealed in the Visible bar while the battery is below 20 percent, and hidden otherwise. Each trigger names an item, a condition and where to show it.

From the Tuck README. See the permissions guide for steps to grant or revoke each one.

Set up in three steps

  1. Install and allow Accessibility

Tuck asks for Accessibility so it can find menu bar items and move them. Screen Recording is optional and can wait.

  2. Sort your icons

Open Layout in Settings. Drag icons into Visible, Hidden or Always-Hidden. New apps go where you put the New Items badge.

  3. Reveal with one move

Click, hover, scroll or press a hotkey. Open search to jump to an item by name. On a notched Mac, use the Tuck Bar.

What Tuck does not do

  • Tuck does not edit the icons inside an app’s own drop-down menus.
  • It cannot recover every system item on every display. Test the Tuck Bar on yours.
  • It does not import layouts from other menu bar apps.
  • It does not support macOS 14 or 15. macOS 27 support is in development. See the macOS 27 page.
  • Some items are left alone by design. macOS stops certain system items from being moved with Command-drag.
